Job Description *
The Shipper/Driver position is responsible for driving a straight truck to make local deliveries and pickups from and to SPS customers and vendors. When not driving and/or making deliveries, the position is responsible for performing warehouse duties including: wrapping pallets, stacking trays, packing a variety of products in proper containers as instructed.
Drive Straight Truck to make deliveries and pickups from SPS to vendors and back again on a daily basis to pick up, transport and drop off packages and shipments within a specific region. Shipments include business-to-business shipments or local deliveries
Ensures deliveries are reviewed for proper dates, and that a pickup slip is attached to each order prior to loading the truck. Maintains a daily driver’s log for mileage and cargo in conformance to customer specifications and SPS guidelines
Maintains documentation for customer pickups, such as collecting signatures, documenting counts and assisting with order related questions
Keeps vehicle and production area clean and clear. Other duties as assigned
Compare parts and pan tags with verbal and written information including labels to insure proper identification of product
Package product in a way to avoid damage when shipping to customer by hand or weigh count method to determine proper quantity per container according to packing instruction sheet
Use discretion to ensure quality packaging.
Assign proper labels to proper job
Coordinate with Packing/Checker when problems occur
Attach part identification tags or oil parts as instructed; label and stamp; complete packing form as to rate, quantity, etc
Maintain work areas in a clean, safe and orderly condition.
Adhere to established safety regulations within the department assigned.
Perform other duties as necessary or appropriate to the position
Qualified candidates have the following:
The incumbent must be able to pass a DOT physical and possess a valid medical card.
Must possess a valid state motor vehicle operator’s license (State in which driver resides).
Ability to drive a Straight Truck up to 26,000 GVWR with a minimum of one year verifiable driving experience in similar sized vehicles (i.e. straight truck) within the last 3 years with a safe driving record.
Candidates must have a basic enough understanding of English to be able to understand and follow safety and other operational directions communicated in English, irrespective of their native language.
Must have the ability to perform all essential functions of the position with or without reasonable accommodations.
Must have demonstrated proficiencies in skills and essential functions required for other packing positions or have ability to operate listed machines and equipment with routine training and follow written and verbal instructions.
Knowledge, Skills and Ability:
Basic Computer skills and ability to read a map and understand directions.
Based on operational need; have a flexible schedule to work overtime, which may include weekends, holiday, and/or a different shift with limited or no advance notice.
General communication skills such as reading pan tags, reporting production data and receiving job instructions and procedures.
Arithmetic such as addition, subtraction, multiplication and division, including decimals and fractions, simple use of formulas, charts, tables, drawings, specifications and schedules
Repetitive work requiring constant alertness or activity.
Uses judgement to plan or perform work within limitations of standard methods and procedures
