POSITION SUMMARY: The Intern Design Engineer (Intern) is a learning-contributor to the Design Engineering organization. The Intern is expected to be a contributor in design and development efforts including concept generation, detailed design, analysis and documentation. The Intern's primary deliverable will be the fulfillment of assignments in support of ongoing design and support activities. The Intern works in a team environment working with both external and internal customers.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: The following is a list of duties, tasks, work activities and/or functions the Intern Design Engineer will/may be required to perform: • The Intern will be responsible to complete drafting assignments using Solidworks in support of designs completed by other engineers within the organization. • The Intern will be responsible to assist with modeling and dimensioning detailed drawings using Solidworks. • The Intern will be responsible to perform tolerance stacks, basic stress analyses, select materials and define appropriate processes in support of defining and substantiating that an end item meets the customer requirements. • The Intern will be responsible to work in a team environment including internal team members and suppliers. An Intern must be able to work collaboratively and communicate effectively to achieve the program goals.
SPECIFICATIONS: The following is a list of skills, abilities, training, education, experience, values, interests and /or talent that the Intern Design Engineer will be expected to possess and demonstrate: • The Intern position is considered a part time position as the Intern is expected to be an actively enrolled student in an accredited university.
The Intern must be in a Bachelor of Science (BS) curriculum in Engineering (or working towards this goal). • The intern weekly hours will be adjusted each semester, or as needed, to enable the intern to attend classes. • Completion of 2rd year level (3rd year is ideal) college courses in support of a Bachelor of Science (BS) degree in Engineering with a strong curriculum emphasis on structural design, analysis and mechanics of materials is required (Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering is preferred). An equivalent number of years of experience in related or supporting job functions, or completion of only one year may be considered. • Prior experience as a summer intern in the area of engineering is preferred. • Completion of Computer Aided Design classes and drawing reading experience is preferred. Enrollment or completion in a Solidworks class is a requirement. • Must possess strong communication skills necessary to exchange detailed written and verbal information communicated in English. • Must be proficient in the use of personal computers and Microsoft Office tools such as Word and Excel.
