Machine Operator (Nashville, TN)

Greer Stop Nut, a Precision Castparts Corporation company, has an immediate need for experienced Machine Operators at our manufacturing plant in Nashville, TN.  Each position is a Full-Time, First Shift position with a schedules from 6:00 AM - 2:30 PM Monday - Friday, with overtime regularly available prior to 6:00 AM and on Saturdays. 

SUMMARY
Tend to one or more machines or special purpose machines to machine metal work pieces to specifications on production basis by performing the following duties.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following.  Other duties may be assigned.

- Starts machine, engaging all feed mechanisms in proper sequence, and observes operation.

- Recognize improper function of machine-stops machine and reports failure to proper person. 

- Inspects and measures machined work pieces to verify conformance to specifications and to continually strive to improve quality.  When defective parts are found, the machine is to be stopped, and the defect reported to the set-up man or supervisor.

- Continuously monitors parts being produced and complete S.P.C. charts as required.

- Assist in the training of new employees and/or assist other operators as time permits.

- Adds coolant to machine reservoir and turns valve to stat flow of coolant. 

- Tends machines and equipment-loading hoppers, unjamming machine, replacing tools when available (taps, etc.).

- Perform duties in accordance with established work instructions and procedures to maintain compliance with the Quality Management System.

- Maintain good housekeeping.

- Maintain safety as #1 priority, abiding by company rules, operating machinery only when guards are in place, wearing required personal protective equipment (PPE) when in the manufacturing area, and maintaining a clean work environment.

- Report any unsafe conditions to supervisors.

- Performs other duties deemed necessary by the department lead person or supervisor.

EDUCATIONS and/or EXPERIENCE
High school diploma or general education (GED); and one to three months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
 
LANGUAGE SKILLS
Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence.  Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients and other employees of the organization.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS
Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions and decimals.  Ability to compute rate, ratio and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.

REASONING ABILITY
Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but involved written or oral instructions.  Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.
